TITHE: OUR FIRST, AND OUR BEST
The Bible asks us to give our first and our best back to God, and He will bless the rest. This first is the tithe, or tenth, of our income. We return to the Lord 10% of what He's given us, because it belongs to Him. The tithe is a very practical and tangible way to put God first. If you are not tithing already, a great way to start is with the 90 Day Tithe Test.
Countless people experience God’s blessings when they tithe, but often the first step can be the hardest one to take. This 90-day tithe test is based on God’s promises in Malachi 3:10-11 where God says we can test Him. God says we will see blessings in our life when we trust Him with our finances. These blessings show up in different ways from deeper relationships in your life, to your needs being met, to conflicts getting resolved, to a deeper relationship with God. This challenge is designed to help people to take next steps toward trusting God with their finances.
The Tithe Test challenges us to faithfully commit to give a tithe of your income to the Lord for the next 90 days – three months – so that you have an opportunity to experience God's provision. If at the end of those 90 days you have not seen God move in and through your life – we will gladly return what you gave over those 90 days. TITHE TEST: A FINANCIAL COVENANT WITH GOD
By faith, I take God up on his challenge "Test me in this and see." I ask him to show me it is far better to live on 90% with his blessing than 100% with out. I trust God and want to affirm His ownership of myself and every aspect of my life. I declare "my" money and possessions to in fact be His. I acknowledge Him to be the owner and myself to be the steward, His money manager.
As a symbol of my complete submission to God, I set aside the tithe, the first 10% of everything, as holy and belonging exclusively to the Lord. I will return to him the whole tithe, being careful not to rob him and invite his curse. I will give back to Him, through his church, the first fruits of all he provides. I do this in obedience to Him and in desire of his blessing (Malachi 3:6-12).
